A Merry Menagerie

So my sister shows my nephew Evan the owl I made for him and he gives it the seal of approval :) He went up to my sisters laptop and kissed the picture of the owl, attempted to type on her keyboard...and started repeating Owl, Owl, Owl. Awww!! Wouldn't that make your heart melt?
So of course I asked my sister, what other animals does he like so I can make him some more? Alligator, fish, elephant, tiger....and fish also meant (sea creature) - dolphin, turtle, starfish, octopus...hahaha! So now we have the Merry Menagerie which will reside in Evan's playroom.
Just finished two more today (click to enlarge):
Materials: Magazines, old dictionary pages, scraps, vellum, acrylic, watercolor, china ink, markers, pastels and lots and lots of love :)
More in the works....
My sister said she is going to hang them in Evan's play area right beside the big Lion growth chart she bought at Pottery Barn.

Aside from the things I'm working on, I promise myself to TRY to create something by hand everyday - today I created a collage for my nephew Evan, he loves owls (who doesn't? they're so cute with their huge huge eyes!)
Materials used: Various Scraps of papers, acrylics, white and black china ink, cray-pas, highlighter, glitter gel pens and License Alpha Collage Sheet by SherrieJD for Evan's name, sample frame by me. Read more...
Recycled Tags are Cool!

I've also been so, so behind on my journal entries even if I have been trying to create something each day. Although today I really could not help it and would putter around to my big table and sit for 10 minutes or so to dab some paint here and there. I finally succumbed after dinner and sat down at my work table, keeping my son Enzo company while he was doing a school project. I finally finished this "tag" project I had been working on sporadically for about 3 or 4 days now.
This project was inspired by a tutorial by Alisa Burke my newest mentor, even if she doesn't know it :) She had this idea to re-use those clothes tags and paint over them and use as gift tags. What a cool idea. Great thing I have this penchant for keeping tags I like (always thinking I may have a use for them later) Ha! You see, I just knew I'd need them (LOL!)
Except I created little miniature canvases out of them.
Miniature art, ready to hang on my wall, or maybe on my Christmas tree, my door, as a bookmark...I think I'll scan it and print it out on nice thick paper so I can give it away as bookmarks.
Some Wedding Pages

It's been a really crazy week for me busy finishing all my projects... and still busy with a new project my good friend asked my help with for her husband's 50th birthday which has to be out for print on Saturday, (I only got the files today) eek! Sleepless nights here we go again. To top things off, I have been plagued by really bad migraines and neck pain (which I believe has to do with my work chair not being the most ergonomic one). Because of the migraine meds, my acid reflux is back full force (I was diagnosed with hiatal hernia way back) and I've been having really bad stomach spasms for four days now. Arrgh! That means no coffee and spicy food for me for the meantime. That is such a bummer. No coffee? Whaaaat? How could I start my day without coffee? But then I am in such pain now, so I have to be on my coffee diet. Sigh.
I was up late the other day because I worked on my final touch for this wedding album I finished creating. I have a love affair with birds right now ever since I saw Gennine's blog and have started to draw my own using pictures of birds found in the Philippines.
